17.9.10 (PSS) One-Sample Poisson Rate Test
The power and sample size for a one-sample Poisson rate address how many observations are needed to detect a specified difference between a hypothesized rate and the true rate, with a given level of confidence. And data is assumed to follow a Poisson distribution.
Generally speaking, Power and Sample-Size tools can be used in two ways: sample-size estimation and power computation. The former can be used to determine the size of the sample to ensure a certain level of power when you are designing an experiment. The latter can be used to estimate the accuracy of the result after you have conducted an experiment on a specific number of samples.
To perform a Power and Sample Size for One-Sample Poisson Rate Test:
- Select Statistics: Power and Sample Size: (PSS) One-Sample Poisson Rate Test. This opens the PSS_poissonTest1 dialog box.
- From the Calculate list, choose Power or Sample Size, then choose your remaining options.
- Upon clicking OK, an analysis report sheet is generated.
